Jennifer Vyvyan Study Day at the Wigmore Hall, London

Preparations are going well for the JV study day on Saturday 29th Septembner at the Wigmore Hall. It will be a fascinating insight into not only the life of Ms Vyvyan, but also the history of classical music in the last half of the 20th Century.

I am delighted to announce that Alice Rose Privett is the winner of the Jennifer Vyvyan Royal Academy of Music Award for 2011/2012.

Alice is a very talented and promising young singer and you can read about her here and you can listen to a clip of here singing here.
This yearly Award remains very important to me not least because my mother was an impoverished singer when she first came to London to study at RAM as a young adult. You can hear an excerpt of just how hard her student life was before her career started by clicking here. and also in the 'Scholarship' section itself.

Originally broadcast Tuesday August 18TH 2011, 11.30PM

When Jennifer Vyvyan died in 1974 she left behind a husband, a small son and an awful lot of stuff – which was put in boxes and stored in a loft for almost 40 years until it was re-examined and turned into the material for this website.

Opening the Boxes is a reflection on how all this happened. Presented by the music critic Michael White, who did the research and wrote the site, it features contributions from conductor Steuart Bedford, stage director John Copley, soprano April Cantelo, and JV's son Jonathan Crown. Website launch

The launch of the Jennifer Vyvyan Website was celebrated at the Wigmore Hall on Thursday 23rd September.
This was the venue where Ms Vyvyan first auditioned before Benjamin Britten in 1948.

It was a well attended event which was enlivened by two heartfelt talks by the renowned countertenor James Bowman and veteran broadcaster John Amis, both of whom knew Ms Vyvyan.
